Does stress+worry really turn your hair grey+if it does why?

Grey hair is not caused by stress, worry etc etc.....read on

Aging

Older people tend to develop grey hair because the pigment in the hair is lost and the hair becomes colorless. Grey hair is considered to be a characteristic of normal aging. The age at which this occurs varies from person to person, but in general nearly everyone 75 years or older has grey hair, and in general men tend to become grey at younger ages than women.

It should be noted however, that grey hair in itself is not actually grey; the grey head of hair is a result of a combination of the dark and white/colorless hair forming an overall 'grey' appearance to the observer. As such, people starting out with very pale blond hair usually develop white hair instead of grey hair when aging. Red hair usually doesn't turn grey with age; rather it becomes a sandy color and afterward turns white. In fact, the gray or white appearance of individual hair fibers is a result of light scattering from air bubbles in the central medula of the hair fiber.

Of course not.Its the age that turns your hair gray.People like to use stress as an excuse though. If stress could cause it then 15 year olds could have gray hair.

Mabe not stress but a terrible scare or a terrifying ordeal has been known to turn you white.. Not an expert but I would think its because when you get a fright you turn pale and thats because your rich precious blood diverts to your vital organs to protect them so I would imagine its because at that moment it deprives your hair folicles from blood and oxygen.. Could be wrong though..

Gray hair is typically a result of natural aging. Pigment in the hair shaft comes from special cells at the root (base) of the hair. These cells are genetically programmed to make a certain amount of pigment (melanin) at specific ages. At some point in the aging process, these cells make less and less pigment until the hair has very little pigment. White hair has no pigment, and gray hair has some but not as much as a red, black or brown hair.

Not all hairs respond in the same way or at the same time. So the graying process usually is gradual. You can't prevent graying. Some people start graying in their 30s, and some not until their 60s. Genetics likely play a strong role in graying.

People rarely go gray overnight. If they do, it's typically due to alopecia areata. This condition causes the thicker, darker hairs to stop growing before it affects the growth of gray hairs 閳?giving the impression of graying overnight. Alopecia areata eventually causes roundish patches of hair loss

high stress can affect different hormones in your body. One such hormone is melanin. Melanin gives us pigment in our skin and hair.

i believe it can. all my hubby does is stress himself out and worry all the time and he's been gray since he was 9 years old. he is now 46 and looks 60...i think stress and worry put so much stress on the body, it ages you physically.

No, it is just genetics. My grandmother had an idyllic child hood and she went completely white at the age of 23! I am 44 and have had a stressful life and I have not one grey hair to my head! In many ways I have inherited my grandmother's genes, but in other ways I have not. Thank God for that she had a nose!!
