What is the best way to change from coloured hair to natural grey without horrid grown out roots?

I have coloured my hair for a few years now to keep it as near to its original redish brown as possible. I think it is about time I started to change to my natural grey as I never seem to successfully cover it up these days!

It will take You some time, maybe around 6 months. First you need to get your colour as close to your natural as possible (and it it better be done at the hairdressers using professional products) then have it high-lighted with thin and quite light sections, full head. So that when it starts to grow the darker colour will blend with your natural dark regrowth and the growing out grey will blend in to the high-lights. It is good to have it high-lighted 2 or 3 times within this 6 months period, so that the ends will get light enough. But don't strip your colour off in one go! It is the most damaging process for your hair, it will ruin it. Take care

Just start dying the roots a couple of shades lighter than the shade you have it now. Each time you get your hair done, go another couple of shades lighter and the grey will "fade in". A hairdresser will be able to help you do this, and it's usually cheaper to get root touchups than to dye all of it.

When you go in to colour your hair have them leave strips of your gray hairs out so it kinda looks like gray highlights. It'll look like your just starting to go gray and and leave more and more strips out every time you do it. It'll look like a natural transition.

My mom did this:

She has the same color hair as you do.

Instead of dying it, she had bleached streaks put in, thus, hiding the greys somewhat while also letting them come in.

It worked for her.

You need a colour stripper/reducer but be warned they can cause damage, only go to a salon to get this done or you could end up in big trouble!
