My dyed "Ash blonde" hair turned silvery/grey/purple-ish. What toner can I use?

I just used a box color called "Medium Ash Blonde" Its only one step darker than the normal color I dye it, but it turned a silvery greyish tint.

What toner can I use to give it the golden blonde again without being ashy??

hi sis

Since you have a slivery greenish tint to your hair what I recommend is that you color your hair with a blonde shade that has a reddish tint to counteract the ash tone. The red tint will neutralize any grey pigment in your hair. Trust me on this one. At first your hair will be strawberry blonde but a lot of the reddness will wash out and within week or two you will have a beautiful honey blonde shade. My recommendation is using the Revlon Colorsilk #72 Strawberry Blonde which is a beautiful natural golden blonde with natural red tones. It is also great and affordable. What I also recommend to keep your hair vibrant what I recommend is using the John Frieda Sheer Blonde Honey to Caramel for darker shades of blonde hair.

Sorry but Ash means it has a silvery gray hue to it. Get a Medium Gold Blonde. I don't know what brand you use but if you want gold, look for G or Gold in the name.

It might be an after effect of the dye. That happened to me, to and I use silver shampoo to keep my hair as blond as possible.

It's sold at most salons... there are many brands- they'll know what you're taking about

I have no clue why manufacturers even make an ash shade....anybody I've ever talked to has had hair disasters using an ash shade....I too tried it once and my hair turned greenish. My only solution was to rush to a hair salon and have them fix it.

You may just want to wait and see if it comes out after a few shampoos. Since you color your hair regularly, the cuticle will be open enough to let some of the pigment out when you shampoo. It may save you further damage if you don't go directly to another color. also, if you do touch up color, you don't need to do your whole head each time. My stylist fusses at me for that. Some people look really good in ash shades, but obviously that is not your preference. Good luck!

  1. I have done it on many ocassions . I agree it doesn't look great at first but after 2 washes , purple/gray shade will go away. You will be left with nice medium blonde . I use wella medium ash blonde and it always goes purple on my bleached highlight's :) x

  3. I have had this issue, I found taking fresh lemons and squeezing the juice into a bowl then apply to the more grayish parts first then continue with the rest of your hair. Put a shower cap on and leave for 15 minutes then shampoo and condition as normal.
